A work In Progress

A while ago I posted some shots of "star trails"  I have moved into the next phase of my adventure. Photographing the Milky Way.  It is not as simple as one would think.  You require a very dark location, warm cloths, a good battery, "OFF", a good tripod and a lot of time and patience.

The most important phase is the post processing and remembering the camera settings and what not.

Below is an unfinished example of where I am at in this stage of my learning process.  This example is a result of at least 4 trips to my "dark spot" area, and of about 200 photos.  It is all trial and error with ISO setting, length of exposure, f - stop, colour balance etc,

This is still a work in progress......and thanks to my mentor +darryl van gaal of Google+.....I am getting there.

enjoy.....

The combined photo is a series of 9, twenty-five second shots with 2 dark frames inserted.  That is 2 shots taken with the lens cover on.  I used my 10.5mm fish eye with the camera pointed up at about 75 degrees.  So we are seeing about 70% of the overhead sky from the far tree tops.
