Wood Pecker
I am glad that I recently removed the outside screen from my office window. As I was looking out the window this afternoon, I noticed some activity on the nearby tree. Sure enough, it was a wood pecker working away on the tree. Since my camera was handy I opened the window and popped off a few shots. I only had the 16mm - 85mm on the camera and it was not good enough. Went down to the car and grabbed my 70mm - 300mm and back upstairs. This lens was much better, but the bird had moved to a branch further away. Did what I could with the shots (174 of them) and this was one of the better ones. Had to crop the frame to about 1/4 size and this made the shot a bit grainy. Also, I had to shoot at a lower speed, as the the shot was a bit dark with the cameras recommendation. Processed with NIK and OnOne to get the final edit. All this was done hand held at 300mm with the VR on. If I would have set up the tripod, it would have been steadier and no need for the VR.... I am happy with the results. (april 2014)
